Global warming, climate change and the fact that we are running out of fossil fuels are important drivers for the rising demand of renewable energy sources. Wind is one of the most important renewable energy sources. In recent years several wind parks have been built, onshore but mainly offshore.
Although offshore wind is a relatively new sector, Observator has already acquired a firm position within this market. As meteorology and hydrology specialist we know which information is needed to build and operate an offshore wind park, whether it is nearshore or miles away.
Besides the involved vessels (e.g. Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus) and their helipads, Observator has supplied several transformer platforms with MetOcean systems. These systems can be equipment with wind, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, visibility, cloud and seawater temperature sensors.
For unmanned substations Observator has developed an ATIS system with automatic broadcast feature in order to inform a helicopter pilot about the weather conditions before the final approach to the helipad.
Finally, from our precision technique department (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), we are top producers of optical and precision engineering products, both for all entities within the Observator Group and other renowned industries, such as renewable energy.
